This is an accessibility statement from the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media (RRCHNM).
Conformance status
Accessibility is a core value at RRCHNM. As a center dedicated to democratizing history and making the past accessible to broad audiences, we believe that commitment must extend to the usability of the digital tools, websites, and resources we create. We work to ensure that our projects are perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for all users.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA, including:
- Use semantic HTML and appropriate ARIA landmarks
- Provide meaningful alternative text for images and transcriptions for videos
- Ensure sufficient color contrast and readable typography
- Support keyboard navigation and screen readers
Additional accessibility considerations
RRCHNM has been building digital history projects since 1994. Some of our earlier work was created before modern web accessibility standards existed or were widely adopted. While we are proud of the scholarly contributions these projects represent, we recognize that they may not be fully accessible. Many of our legacy projects have been archived in Mason Archival Repository Service (MARS) and will remain noncompliant as they exist only as historical artifacts of the technologies and standards of the era in which they were built. We are working to improve the accessibility of other legacy projects that are still actively hosted on our servers with the aim for those project to be WCAG 2.1 level AA compliant or removed from our servers by April 26, 2027.
Feedback or Report an Issue
